Tasked with the project to create a commercial for a popular product, I took inspiration from classic western films to make sunscreen fun. Blazing heat of summer in Los Angeles and a family of skin cancer made choosing sunscreen as the subject for this commercial an obvious pick.
If These Walls Could Talk | Music Video

At the New York Film Academy, students were given the opportunity to film music videos on the Hollywood sets that are seen in major feature films. The ‘If Walls Could Talk’ by 5 Seconds of Summer music video Maya created depicts one of her main struggles in life: change. In the music video we see Violet who has recently finished packing up and cleaning out her home while slowly falling deeper down the hole of anxiety and loneliness, with only the walls of the home representing what is left of the life she is leaving behind. This music video is a great representation of how Maya feels during the major transition stages of life that we all must experience.

‘Roommates’ is a psychological horror short film featuring a blind man and his recently evicted neighbor. Written, directed, and edited by Maya Haims at the New York Film Academy, helping her develop her storytelling skills. Maya has enjoyed psychological thrillers for many, many years and immediately knew she wanted to create horror short films of her own.

Assigned the project to create a self portrait, Maya Haims set up her tripod and aimed to capture an authentic day in the life of a college student during Covid.
